Artist Statement
“Feeling at peace can be practically impossible when everything around you seems to be too much all at once. However, reserving a single moment every day to take a deep breath in, hold, and release, can begin to make you feel more balanced. This moment can be the sole reason your days result in peace and not chaos.
My art for it’s viewers is that exact deep breath moment. When someone is looking at my art I hope that it can be a moment of calmness for them. I am an artist that focuses in altered photography and graphic design. Many of my pieces play with balance and harmony within negative and positive space. For example, my piece “Library,” which is a photograph of my high school library, creates a calming photo within a realistically, very busy space. Another piece that speaks heavily on my style as an artist is my inkjet print, “Dead Roses”. This altered photograph of a vase of dead roses turned something that most people would just throw away, into a calm space to visually enjoy because of the colors and textures created. My art is not too cluttered or chaotic, and still plays with contrast and similarity all at once. I enjoy the in-between moment that is the transition from chaos to peace. Many of my pieces take a space or an object that can be seen as minimal into something greater. The calmness within those spaces or items is often overlooked, yet is the most beautiful part of creating peace.”
